How are you supposed to get used to a 73* headangle on these 24" cruiser's...I'm a DH mtn biker mostly-trying to transition into 4x & BMX ......I was scared to death to jump it & kept washing out w/ the 24" front tire!!!!!! Man,is it different........
I got a 4" Judy race + 26" wheel +the stock high bars! on my 2.24 Haro..Feels great--but looks somewhat unortodox lookin!!!I'm 6'2" ...am i wasting my time with these small bikes??

Good thing you aren't on a 20" bike with a 74.5 deg. head angle. The head angle is good in a straight line for stability because the trail is generous. But at speed they aren't going to corner in the dirt all that well. I've seen a few 24" BMX cruisers with 4" travel forks and either 24" or 26" wheels. The guys riding this set-up really liked it. Probably takes the head angle down to mid/high 60's. If you're having fun, you ain't wastin' time.

The first sentence says it all...Get used to it.It takes getting used to,for 4x that set up may be okay, for true bmx racing it will be tough to pump on rhythum section.I know you're not any taller than Tom,shown here.

style mountain bike frame and work down. I have my P3 set up like a BMX bike now and it's fun. I balked at buying a cruiser because of the steep head angle and no tire clearance. I put a Planet X susp corrected rigid fork on it with 24" Hookworms f/r. Try putting a 2.5 into a cruiser! Don't fit! Granted, my P3 ain't a true "cruiser". I like to think of it as a "super cruiser" with fat tires and the ability to run disc brakes (their off right now because I'm trying the bike in a half pipe.)

I started out BMXing on a D Back X6 full suspension. Man did I grow some monster calves trying to keep up with those guys, me on a 38 lb. bike them on there 23 lb full rigid cruisers. This year I got myself 2001 Diamondback Reactor Dual. The bike is 4.5 lbs lighter than the full susp. and rigid tail. It gets alot of looks at the track, but very competitive. It is more forgiving than those damn cruiser, but if I want to start winning, I'm gonna' have to get a cruiser and get used to it. Check out www.fortwaynebmx.com

Here is my "super cruiser" before I put the disc brakes on. I really want to get rid of the P3 frame for a slightly smaller Surly Instigator frame. Big 2.5's fit fine, but with the Surly I can run 3.0's if I want. It's pretty quick feeling with 2.1's.

I couldn't get a photo to post either. I'll try it now. If it loads, this is the bike I ride in the cruiser class. (NBL)31-34yr. old

I rode freeride bikes for many years before getting my first cruiser. At first they are hard to ride, very hard on the wrists, and difficult to do anything on. Keep with it. After cracking a few of last years Specialized cruiser frames, I went to a 20" BMX, and I absolutly love it.

My first 20" bike was a Haro F5 with a 20.5" top tube, and it felt a bit short (cruisers are around 21.5"). I got my hands on a Specialized TJ frame with a 21" top tube, and I run a 55mm stem on it. I absolutly love it.

After riding 20" for about 6 months I can no longer ride 26" freeride bikes becaues they feel so slow and washy. They are unresponsive, long, and heavy. Once used to the rigid feeling of a bmx you become very smooth on it, and it does not hurt to ride.

For the record, I'm 6'4" and have no problem on a 20".

My latest cruiser is an aluminum race bike, a Clayborn alx. I love it - by far the best handling cruiser I've ever ridden. I'm a BMXer from way back, too. I have a Cannondale Gemini with 6fr/7rear inches of travel. Also a Standard 250 trls with a 21" TT. I love them all (I also have 2 road bikes and a unicycle or two). The point of this post is to add the following:

-My suspension bikes have spoiled me (my wrists especially). I never want to ride rigid ever again, but I do.

-I'm, 32 yrs, 6'4" and 250# and my 20" is probably too small for me (it feels squirrely on dirt jumps) but I DON'T CARE! It has a freecoaster and I practice fakie, and I love to ride wheelies so I manual every chance I get.

-I got the idea from a post a couple months ago, on this board, to take the Pitchfork off my cruiser and replace it with my old 5" Z1 Marzocchi with a QR20 26" wheel. I like it but it needs a lower bar.

I think I had a more concise point that got lost in this rambling, so I'll sum it up by saying I believe the whole point of BMX (cycling in general) is PROGRESSION. Thats why I ride manuals and fakie on my 20 and take bigger drops on my freerider and why I bastardized my cruiser. I just want to ride - you fellows know how good it feels. Do what you wanna do and don't worry about nothin'. Peace brothers!
