HELP!! Im building a trials bike on a budget, and I wanted to know if I could use a BMX 3-pc crankset on my frame. Do i need a special BB or will the one the set has work fine? Thanks www.danscomp.com
What diameter is the BB shell on your frame?Lucky

BB shells come in two sizes - "BMX", which is about 2" in diameter, and "Euro", which is about an inch and a quarter (I don't know the exact dimensions). Mountain and road bikes typically use "Euro" (the shimano UN-72 for example), and BMX bikes used to be "BMX" (hence the name), but some are now coming with the smaller "Euro" BB's. You can put a "Euro" BB in a "BMX" BB shell with an adapter, but you can't do the reverse. You can also buy BMX cranks with "Euro" BB's, like the Poverty Euro. If you check out Dan's Comp, you see what I mean. If you buy the crank and BB separately, make sure they're compatible. A lot of the crank makers are using various proprietary spline designs or hexagonal axle holes that will only work with their own BB's.
