| Interesting hub from a '98 Mongoose Phase 2 | pennstatebiker Jun 28, 2003 8:00 PM | | So I took apart the hub on my old BMX bike today, because it was really loose, needed to be cleaned, and I wanted to find out more about it anyway. It is unlike any other hub I've ever seen - it almost seems like it has a freehub body, but not quite, because it doesn't use a "splined" cassette like most BMX or mountain bikes, and it isn't threaded for a freewheel. I cleaned it up, and took pictures of the cog and the hub without the cog/axle through it. All I'm asking is if anyone has ANY info on this hub - like what type it is, who made it, or anything else. It is the stock hub from a 1998 Mongoose Phase 2 BMX race bike. Built during the last year before Mongoose was bought out and started being sold in department stores.
Thanks

| looks like... | Optikal (NZ) Jul 1, 2003 5:26 PM | | I'm not familar with that specific hub, but it looks a lot like the newer compact drive cassette hubs, how rather than use a traditional cassette they use a 'driver' which incorperates the cog and pawls into one unit.
Profile, for example, make drivers down to a 9 tooth size.
Definatly a rare hub! |
