BUYING MY SON A HARO X4(7 posts)

BUYING MY SON A HARO X4GOOD DAD FOR BUYING HARO X4?
Jul 16, 2003 12:48 PM
Hi,

I haven't rode a bike for about 25 years so I don't know anything about bikes. I have heard my 12 year old son talk about a Haro X4 and I think he really wants one. Do you think it's a good bike to get him? Would it make me a great Dad :-).

Thanks

Your son must want one of the backtrail bikes. I think the X4 is the top of that line and is a killer ride with strong parts. Unless he does BIG crashes ALOT it should last him years with little maintenance. You'd be a cool Dad to get him one, but you'd be the Man if got yourself a matching Backtrail X24 cruiser to ride with him!!!
would it make me a great dad? no!namaSSte

what makes youa great dad is that you are taking the time to research it rather than just giving your son a check. being hands on makes you a great dad so good on ya for it! I do agree that you should get one for yourself too though! I race mtb but just bought my first bmx so I can ride ith my son at the track, talk about a great experience together!

As for the Haro, I think you'd be making a great call there. They build solid frames and spec them pretty well. The one you are looking at is top notch.

Good luck, have fun.
You already are.papawheeliedon

Hey. When my dad was a kid, bikes were a luxury with a sole purpose: transportation. When I was a boy Dad always kept me on a bike but there was no way he'd buy me a "real" bike. I wanted a real BMX bike more than anything but I rode $hitty secondhand junk. I'm in my thirties now and I've got a house full of real bikes. My freeride bike cost almost three times as much as my 4x4 Ford truck. The point here is that my childhood cycling desires were never quenched and I still am an insatiable bike freak. Maybe if Dad had obliged me as a kid I'd have moved beyond bikes. Probably not, I'm pretty sure there's no cure for what I've got. I LOVE bikes.

Wanna make your boy even happier than if you simply bought him a bike? Wanna be an even greater great dad? Act like you are interested in his riding passion (he might be the next Mirra). Tell him you want to see him ride (if not ride with him) and tell him he's cool and looking good. If he busts an air be amazed and exaggerate the height in frequent retelling. My parents are world class but I was cheated out of these things.

And Thank You

Listen, why are you people lecturing me about how to relate to or raise my son....I asked a simple question meant to get feedback on the quality of the bike he has been asking about. I have read about the bike, I have talked to him about that bike and others, I have read reviews and seen the "big names" that are paid to "push" the bikes....all I wanted was to check to make sure that the bike would be a good one from people that ride them. I have taught my son scholastics, to shoot, fish, snowmobile, I coach him in football, etc. etc. But hey, I understand your concern and I appreciate your opinions on the bike. And I rode peices of crap bikes when I was a kid and wanted him to have alot more than I did

read what you posted originally. You said you didn't know anything about bikes, wanted to know if your son had made a wise choice AND wanted to know if you'd be a good Dad for getting him what he desired. We answered and I believe we we're all praising you!
Relax &.............OOPS...I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE

Sorry, I read the post incorrectly and now that I took my time, I see it for what it is....I apologize. By the way, I just bought the bike for him and just have to wait for it to ship. I know I am not going to be able for it to get here to tell him ;-)....thanks for the input
