early or mid 80s redline bmx framekurtdb1

My neighbor just gave me a earlier to mid 80s (i think) redline bmx frame ( i remember my friends had these while I had a super heavy mongoose). It's pretty old looking - been sitting outside, but it looks straight with no real bad rust (surface only). I though I would see about messing around and see if I could get it going again. WORTH IT? He also has an old FMF BMX frame...SHOULD I ASK FOR THAT TOO? it is also just sitting outside. SHOULD I BOTHER or is it going to be impossible to find parts for it: cranks, etc?

BMX frame and cranks that I got in 3rd grade around 1982. I think it was an Predator, but the graphics and paint are LONG gone. I've slowly been rebuilding it as something to just put around on for my daughter. Parts are readily available for these old frames since many frames today use the same stuff (although these are now "budget bikes"). As for being worth it, that's up to you. There is probably no monetary value for most old frames and they won't hold up to today's thrashings. If you want a cool classic to cruise on, go for it. If you want something to really thrash on, don't bother.

You can find all sorts of old parts on eBay. Just don't go overboard on the cost of "old school" parts. You can even find many of the needed parts through your local bike shop (always support your LBS!!!) or online shops (Dan's is loved/hated by many).
