Aug 7, 2003 1:06 AM | | Dawg, I used to race an original mongoose - theone with the half cromo and half hitensile frame - bog stock standard steel forks, but with nice solid customised options elsewhere.
I remember drooling over the Hutch bikes when they came to full notoriety in the early eighies with some of the hot US racers of the time - I think Steve Veltmen was in the 15 experts then, (did Toby Henderson race their cruisers for a while?). I even remember the review of the pro model in BMX action (the crankset was a work of art) - they absolutely loved it - thrashed it and complimented its jumpability! In fact we recently had a BMX reunion back here in OZ where some of the old boys (we're 30 something now) got together, dusted off the old machinery and brought it out for a bit of track work and beer runnning. To think that redline flite cranks are STILL the gold standard is amazing. One of my mates has his old GT in mint condition - bit flighty in the front end though, complete with the old Hutch Beartraps - remember those meateaters?!?

Sep 14, 2003 12:34 PM | | I used to race in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember when Hutch was just a shop in Rockville, MD. I used to mail order my parts from them. Once they came out with the bikes they went big time. By the way, I had a original SE Quadangle from the early 80's. I sold the frame on eBay a few months ago for $1000. You should see what your Hutch will fetch. |
