Looks like several of us are trying to recapture our childhood ;)

My son and I are really enjoying riding together and he has a freestyle bike (DB grind I think) and I have been playing around with it doing some flatland stuff(Trying to learn the barspins and have the chin scrapes and bruises to prove it). Anyway, we just want to play around with riding: Jumping(bought a launch ramp), flatland and racing. I know I can't get a bike that will do all of this well but what's the best compromise? a dirt jumper? I had a DB Mr. Lucky last year that I took back because I wiped out on it 4 times in the first day and thought that 20" were not for me. Now I realize that I just have to get adjusted to it.

I am looking at the GT Performer (THE bike to have when I was a kid) but it's top tube is less than 21" (20.5 I think) and it seems like it would be pretty heavy for BMX.

I just want to have some fun and get into better shape while doing it so, let me know what you suggest.

My little guy is on a DB Grind like your son. I decided to get into it too. Having raced mtb for years and years, bmx looked like fun so I went out and got a sturdy, yet lightweight ride. Settled on DB Reactor. It's burly enough to handle trails and light enough to race. I wouldn';t say it's overwhelingly either way, just kinda in between. The beauty is that I was able to get it off of Ebay for a song! I don't think the guy knew what he had but its a Reactor frame with decent Araya rims & GT flip flop hubs. I dressed it up a bit with some parts I had around so it now has a Syncros carbon post and Flite saddle too.. I'll be upgrading the crank as soon as I see one cheap and bingo, decent bike to screw around on. I only paid $60 for it so I feel pretty good. Raced it to a third place my first time on the track so I know it can go. I also ride it on urban stuff with my son and on the trails. All things considered, I'd search Ebay for that bike or maybe one of the Haro's for DJ.

Either way, goo on ya for becoming young again. Im sure its something our kids will always remember (hopefully not just the parsts where we crash!)

Peace and light,
Scott

I've been fighting the urge to buy a BMX bike for a year, but I'm almost ready to give in. I don't know what type of budget you're working off of, but I like some of Giant, Redline, and Specialized's budget bikes. I think the Redline even has a full 4130 frame.
