To old, to big?Dirtbkr

Am I to old and big to get back into BMX? I have been riding mountain bikes for the last 5-6years and have been riding motocross the last year, great fun. I just realized there is a BMX track 4 miles from my house, that has about two races a month and weekly practice. I am 28 years old and want to have some fun, I just bought a Free Agent cruiser and want to try it out, I am 5'9" and 220lbs. Get me some thoughts on getting started.

P.S. you should have seen the look on my wife's face when I told her.
Go for it...ironlegsracer

You'll be fine.I raced in the 70's,in the 90's I started racing mtb, when my son started racing in 2000,I started back because I didn't want to stand around while he raced or practiced.First you'll need a good race face....This one always works for Ironlegs Jr.

As for weight,Rick (wearing blue)was about 220,and was very fast.

You are never too old to start BMX. I started riding in my mid twenties after some reverse evolution from road to mtb to bmx. I had a bmx as a kid but it was more about transportation than racing or jumping, etc. I found that my mtb skills have been helped more by bmx than vise versa. As a racer, especialy racing cruiser, you will have lots of opportunities to race others your own age and skill. I just read an interview in DR with Ned Overand who started racing cruiser in his hometown after a new track was built there, and having raced myself at your age I know that there are lots of opportunities for you to have fun. I was humbled quickly by multiple crashes and other riders, from teens to aging boomers, who schooled me with ease when I first hit the track. However the fun learning something new and the atmosphere and feeling of family at races more than made up for my bruised (literaly) ego.

Thanks for replying guys. I already have all the riding gear pants, jersey, gloves and full face helmet. I ride alot of motocross, which I think this will complement. I just got the bike together yesterday and took it for a spin. First thing I notoiced was the head angle and how that made it steer. Anyways I am going to go to the thursday open practice and see how it goes, I hope they are still having them. The season here in Illinois is almost over.
