Question about Mongoose bikes.....(3 posts)

Question about Mongoose bikes.....EZBats
Nov 2, 2003 5:54 PM
I've had a Mongoose villain for about 3 years, and have just recently found some good spots to ride that have pretty big drops and other things. Do you think that this 3 year old bike is up for 4-5 foot drops. I did one today and the bike looked ok, but made some noises for a while (brakes and stuff) Any imput would be appreciated, thanks!

Mate, I would just be thrashing that Villain if I were you. 3 years old is NOTHING to worry about. Maybe some of the other stuff on your bike might cop a hiding, but the frame and forks should be perfectly OK. Are you worried about fatigue or something? mate, my bike is a 1981 vintage Mongoose - the very first ones that ever came out - with the from triangle cromo and the rear hi-tensile steel!!! It is still going strong - and weighs in light at about 26 pounds. I guess they don;t make 'em like they used to hey?
The point is, a 3 year old frame should be fine. Just work up to it chief. As long as you are making decent landings etc, should be fine, and you're more likely to break a crank or something than a frame.

Don;t stop hucking...
I have to disagree on this one...Damion

That mongoose is a decent entry level mt. bike. It is not intended for the kind of abuse that you are talking about. Start saving now. It is not that I am trying to sell you a bike, I am just concerned for others safety. Good Luck.
