Shimano XT disc and lefty?(6 posts)

Shimano XT disc and lefty?Matt

Is it possible to run an XT disc system on a lefty, I know it's a 6 bolt not a 4 bolt like the Coda hub, can you put a coda rotor in an XT caliper, they are both 170mm, I want a lefty but not the Coda brakes!

I'm not sure about that. Even if the diameters are the same, the rotor thicknesses may be different. I have the same problem with my Lefty except I'm trying to put Avid Mechanicals on it. There are some other companies that make 4 bolt rotors (Hayes, Hope, and Formula I believe, though I could be wrong) which may have similar dimensions to Shimano's rotor. If that doesn't work, you do have a couple of options.

1. Check out this hub. http://woodmancomponents.com/products/items/billify.html
You may have better luck trying to purchase it then I did. I was in contact with someone through email (woodmanusa@hotmail.com) who said they could order it for me but I haven't heard from him again.

2. The 2002 Coda Lefty hub uses a 6 bolt rotor. I called Cannondale and the part number is QC627. Any LBS who sells Cannondale can probably order it for you.

3. I also heard that Spinergy makes a Lefty wheel. My LBS said they sold one to somebody...they are pricey but I couldn't find it on the Spinergy web site.

1. the woodman lefty hub won't be in this country for another two weeks and the importer says about $120 for the hub
2. the 2002 coda hub is made out of unobtanium at present. none are in the usa for sale as a seperate part so i'm sure that the local c'dale dealer will take your order but w/o guarantee on when it will get here.

emailed avid about whether or not they will sell a blank rotor so that i can have a local machine shop drill it for 4 bolts but have not recieved a reply...
are you sure?Jason NADS#111

I called Cannondale a few weeks ago about the hub and they said they have them and they are available. I then had my LBS call them to check the availability and the price. They said they were available and would cost me $100.

Maybe everyone was blowing smoke up my a**

my LBS called c'dale yesterday and that was the word from c'dale while i was standing there. c'dale said that they were expecting them soon but that none were pesently available. not sure about the smoke issue but it seems that either your LBS may have wanted to place the order and worry about it later, or c'dale had some recent supply issues...
Quick and dirty solutionMarty D

It is possible to slightly modify (keywords: hacksaw, drill, file, void, warranty) the XT rotors so that they fit Coda 4 bolt pattern.

This is not a pretty solution but seems to work, my friend has tested his hack for about a year without any (brake) problems.
