| Hope Mini help please | Joe Steel Sep 19, 2001 9:56 AM | | While cleaning my rotors with alcohol, and boiling my pads, I did a little inspection of the calipers to see that they were functioning properly. I noticed that the rear pistons were not travelling an equal distance when the lever was actuated (one piston travelled farther than the other). Holding the farthest travelling piston in with a flat blade screw driver, the short travel piston would venture farther out, but with a hideous squeaking noise. Seems like the piston walls may need to be cleaned/lubed. I don't have any DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid laying around. Can I use something else (i.e., Judy Butter) or should I make a trip to the store for brake fluid?
Also, what should I get (or what is the difference) between DOT 4 or 5.1? How do I know what is currently in my system and what happens if you mix the two types?
Hey..uh...Thanks! |

You can put some dot 4 or 5.1 on the pistons as lubercation if you want, that works well. If you can only find dot 4 don't worry. If you need to rebleed you just need to flush out the old fluid. But puting some dot 4 fluid on the pistons that are filled with 5.1 doesn't matter go for it. |
