| NADS: I need help!! | KL Sep 20, 2001 12:25 PM | | NADS,
Called avid today and they informed me Jeff Hutchinson was no longer with the company. Consequently, they didn't have anyone in the tech department to help me because they said they have not replaced him yet.
Now to my question...After a ride a couple days ago I noticed (after removing my front wheel) that the outboard pad (moving pad) was not snapping back into place with its magnet. Upon furthur investigation the magnet is no longer attached to the caliper and is stuck to the back of the pad. How do I fix this? Can I ride when it is like this? Thanks for the help. |
| I Know! I Know! I Know! | shiggy Sep 20, 2001 1:03 PM | | I have posted this fix several times. * Remove both pads and the loose magnet. * Clean the inside of the caliper and the magnet thoroughly. A Q-tip helps. * Use one or two drops of super glue to glue the magnet back in the caliper. (do not glue the magnet to the pad) * Reinstall the pads. Put the wheel back in and you are good to go! I had to do this last February and it is still holding strong. -shiggy, NADS #69 |
| Pads | Paul Sep 20, 2001 3:56 PM | | Jeff has left but I assure you there are still plenty people who can help you with any issue you may have.
Your boy Nads is correct about that fix. Just be carefull not to glue your pad to the magnet.
If it does not work for you, you can send your brake back and I will install new pressure feet into it.
From November onwards all replacement pads will be shipped with a pad spreader which will eliminate this problem completely.

| 'Cross race... | shiggy® Sep 20, 2001 5:46 PM | | ...that was about 8? years ago at Portland International Raceway (Oregon) heading onto the MX course in the infield of the autorace track. We used part of the track too. I lead about 2/3rds of that race (in the 35+ class) literally running away form the rest of the field (I lead from the first 10 meters). Two riders (teammates) would catch me on the fast sections: Chuck Jerebek (sp), who had just won the Best All Round rider title in Oregon (open class) and was the best track rider in the state, and Thomas Prehn (sp), former U.S. Pro road race champion. The battle went on until the last third of the lap when Prehn attacked on the pavement and went clear while Chuck blocked me on a choppy trail. I was able to jump by Chuck on the paved s-curves and pull out 5-10 meters until we hit the deep mud of the MX track to the finish. I was in too big a gear and lost the sprint for second. Not bad for a Cat.4! It was very satisfing to put the hurt on the best rider in the state and a former national champion. -shig |
