| Maguras on 990 mounts (92 IBIS Trials Comp) | Tomi Sep 20, 2001 12:42 PM | | I have a great set of Magura hydraulic brakes that I tried to mount on 990 brackets. I got them on there by flipping the Magura brackets upside down and filing them out a little and everything fits well. The problem is that the pads stand too far off the rim to gain any kind of purchase. I have to dial the pads in all the way in to be able to stop. When I hit the brakes the lever comes all the way back until it almost hits the grip and then I start to fell my pads contacting the rim. Is there any one out there who has done this before and has had any kind of success? Does any one have any advise (other than putting the 990's back on because they suck!)? Thanks for your time! | hey there, tom. | uphiller Sep 20, 2001 5:21 PM | | when i read '92 ibis trials comp', i thought, "that's tom, peradventure"; when i read 'gain no purchase', i thought, "that is in sooth tom'. sorry i don't have any tips on how to fix your brakes, mein herr. maybe try posting in the trials section? somebody on there a few months ago had the same bike and switched to maguras using the same technique you mentioned. if all else fails, try getting some xt or xtr slr plus levers for your 990s and some salmon-colored koolstop pads. best, tim |
| another possible solution | uphiller Sep 20, 2001 5:50 PM | | hey tom i know you're planning on replacing that bike with something else at some point, but it only costs 25 dollars or so to get those u-brake studs sawed off and have them replaced with canti studs. i believe jim's bicycle shop plainfield road near silverton (can't recall the phone number right off the top of my head) does fillet brazing work and could do the job. later tim |
| Hmmmmmm | Pat T.® Sep 20, 2001 8:39 PM | | Ok, I assume you tried the left and right evo's on both sides? If not try switching them. I am not familiar with that frame, but I do know you can make Magura's work on those mounts. If you had a picture that would help more so we can see what problems you are having. Is there enough tire clearance to move the evo's in farther? Did you turn your elbows out more so that you can dial the TPA back in? Hit us up with some more info and we'll get ya back hoppin' Pat T.® MCM #69, MSPS #003 |
