Avid HYDRAULIC disc rumor will not die(5 posts)

Avid HYDRAULIC disc rumor will not dieSpar†¡cus

I received my '01-'02 Cambria Bicycle Outfitter catalog in the mail this week. There, at the top of page 68, the "Avid CPS
b Hydraulic
Disc Brake" is offered for $189. Here's the descriptive copy:

"Dual piston fully hydraulic system with heat expansion resevoir (sp). The Speed Dial Engagement allows the rider to determine the exact point in the lever throw when the pads will engage the rotor. Hydraulic line is protected by Kevlar and is additionally protected by the lever body and handlebar. Lightweight compact lever design with hinged bar clamp. Finish: Silver.
b 445g
."

So.... do these things exist or don't they? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ta ta,

Firstly I can assure you that by July of next year you will be seeing our Hydro brake, and it will be impressive, but I will leave it to you guys to decide on that.

We are still working on the brake so no Mail Order, Bike Shop or anyone else will have them until at least the middle of the summer.

Is Avid coming out with a Road front disk brake? Could use something like that the way these motorist drive and those down hill rides to slow down. Now gotta find a front Alu-Fork with disk tabs in 1-1/8 size. that would be pretty neat.
as I recall....Paul, correct me if I'm wrong....heff®

...but a mechanical 'cross disk brake will be out rather shortly, I know they were in testing awhile back.

The mechanical for 2002 will come in two versions.

Obviously one is for mt bikes, the other has different cams inside
so it will work with STI/Road levers for cyclocross and touring bikes.
