XT discs on a manitou fork?dromond

I've hear that there are adaptors that will allow you to run XT discs brakes on Hayes mount style forks. Is this true? Does anyone have a picture or a link to a picture of one?

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

There are several mfgs making stuff for our XTs, but the one I've had the best luck with is GRC (gravity racing components). It's an outfit out of the NW.

There thing is the disc brake aftermarket, they make quite a few things for the XTs like 204 and 185mm rotor and adapter upgrades. They also make a wicked billet moto style replacement levers for the XT, grimeca and Hayes brake systems. Check out the webpage at www.grcomponents.com for more information.

I'd say contact them for your Hayes mount adapter needs......God knows I've had it with Shimanos service and high prices!

Good Luck,

Frank

Good luck

The first is to do what Frank did, and buy the XT kit, then buy the proper size rotor and adapter from GRP......expensive.

The other is the simpler way: Shimano and Grimeca make the front brake in a Manitou post mount, comes with the 170mm rotor you need, costs alot less. No adapters needed, it bolts directly to your post mounts. You can't order the full-bike kit, you need to order them seperately, but that's the best way to go.

That I have some international standard Magura Louise brakes that I'd like to mount on a Manitou X-vert. Now on www.jensonusa.com they have a Shimano adaptor listed and they say that it will convert and Hayes postmount into I.S. and it specifically lists Magura Louise brakes. But yet on the adaptor in the picture it says 170mm rotor only. This seems to be conflicting information. Can you run a Louise with the adaptor or not? Does it require a 170mm rotor? I doubt Magura makes one and I they didn't say that a louise would have to use one. If anyone has a picture of an adaptor that lets them use a regular I.S. disc brake with a 160mm rotor, preferably a Louise on a Manitou postmount fork I'd really like to see it. I think that I'm going to end up machining one of own anyways. I'm already almost done the rear mounting bracket for my Quake 9.0.

Thanks,
Josh

Magura doesn't state a bigger rotor for the Louise, because there is a post mount Louise caliper. Same thing as Shimano/Grimeca/SRAM, but it doens't require a bigger rotor. To mount the Louise with an IS to Hayes adapter, you'll need a 170mm rotor, as the brake will now be sitting approximately 5mm farther out from the hub. No way around it.....Magura won't warranty any issues you have with your brake, though, because they don't advocate the use of an adapter for the Louise.
