| Any one convert the 6" Shimano rotor to the 8"? | Obie Sep 22, 2001 8:17 AM | | I just got the Shimano 8" rotor and adapter from Shimano for my Rock shox fork. The problem is that the adapter dose not seem to be enuf. The adapter only puts the brake out another .5" and the rotor is an extra 1" taller. The funny thing is that I tried the rear brake on the front just to see how it fit and it was almout perfect. Do you need to run a rear brake in the fromt? Am I missing somthing? Thanks. |
| errr... | Robert. Sep 22, 2001 9:05 AM | | 7 inches is the diameter of the disc... which is one inch larger than 6 inches. The radius is half the diameter. The radius is the distance from the axle to the outside of the caliper. Meaning that you only have to move the rotor out half an inch to get the proper clearance. |
| No. | obie Sep 22, 2001 11:54 AM | | No the disk is 8 inches in diameter this means that the disk is 2" taller than the 6". Meaning that the brake needs to go out an extra inch. The problem is that the adapter only puts it out another .5". This would work great if the disk was 7" but its not its 203mm or 8". |
| oops my bad... | Robert. Sep 22, 2001 2:04 PM | | For some reason I thought you were saying 7 cause you mentioned that the disc was 1 inch larger. |

So it might solve your problem but you'd hope shimano has the right adaptor around so you won't need to buy another caliper.
