Hayes HYDRO disc Brake Users: Pls Help !! URGENT!Atomic
Jan 13, 2002 5:05 PM
Hi! I've just bleed my new hayes purple dh front disc brake, and I'd like to know a thing: When you press the lever, is it like a bit squishy when you squeeze it very very hard? Or does it stop neat? Just wanna know if I have to re-bleed it again... I re-bled it 3 times -and it still have the same feel. I guess it's normal.. I did it once with Hayes DOT 4 fluid, and then Canadian Tire (a car mega store here in quebec, Canada) DOT 3 Fluid (ABS optimized it says on the bottle) and the feeling is exactly the same. There area absolutely no mor bubbles inside since I've pumped about 70ml of fluid through the system! Pls just tell me if it's normal. Thanks!!!
PS: The brake is totally brand new, never ridden, and so are the pads. Can it be related to that?? I imagine that after a couple of dozens of hard braking it'll be gone.. Thanks!
I think it's normal...Pepito

If you bleed it the right way, than it's normal. You
should be able to compress the lever about 1/4 of it's
total travel (lever to the bar). It should feel firm but
mushy if you apply realy hard, (important to bleed the
brakes the lever up and caliper down, like the pic in
the owner manual).

Sorry for my spelling, hope you understand,
Phil from Quebec.

Should feel solid.Dougal

The lever should feel solid with a good bleed, squeeze harder and you'll get flex from the mount, caliper and lever blade but the hydraulics shouldn't budge.

If you can't get an even uphill run from the caliper to the bleed screw on the lever you might need to take the brake off to bleed. This'll be a pain with the purples round the bar clamp but will help get the air out.
