..I am thinking of getting some avid discs and was wondering what cables to buy. I was planning on getting straight jackets, but sppedgoat reccomended the full metal jackets. What should I get?

I personally use either Flak Jackets or Aztec BMX cable/housing. Full metal jackets are nice, and do have some benefits, but they're not necessary.

I finally got a seat stay for my motolite which allows me to run an Avid on the back also....I have straight jacket cable on the front and have enough to do the rear. I wonder if they will be too stiff for the rear end as they are routed through the seat tower. What do ya think?
Thanks,

Works for me. Just make sure you get plastic lined housing and high quality cables -- rolled or teflon coated. File the housing square at its ends (and use end caps) and squirt the inside of the housing with silicone spray before threading the cable and you're good to go.

Oh, and if you ride in the rain or mud, run your rear brake housing full length.

Yeah.

Using Shimano standard housing and stainless steel inner wire with a touch of silicon spray. But this seems to work best in dry dusty climates

I've been using the same cable and housing for over 3 years now. Not the same kind of cable and housing, the same exact pieces of cable and housing. It has been on four different bikes. It started out life as a rear brake cable and when I switched to Avids, it became the front due to length issues. It is just a nylon lined, full length housing with a teflon coated cable. Best value in all of cycling.

they all work fine
I prefer to run full length housing
on my personal bike I run shimano 5mm brake housing that is plastic lined on the inside with a Goretex cable
butter
you can buy just the Goretex cables..
this setup is great, simple, sealed and butter smooth
