| 2001 Kona King Kikapu & Shimano Disc Brake Compatability | Sergei91 Mar 31, 2002 6:07 PM | | I have a 2001 Kikapu and I put Shimano Xt discs on it. They squeal constantly and LOUD as hell. My LBS has replaced the rear rotor and pads once after quite a bit of brake in with new shimano pads and rotors that didn't work. Now he has replaced the stock pads with EBC(?) reds. Still squeaking bad. They all pretty much feel that the noise is due to a harmonic in the bike not just with the rotor and pad. Disc brakes squeal at times, I do know this, but all involved feel that they shouldn't squeal like this
Has anybody else had this experience or know of any solutions with the Kona?
The LBS is going to call Kona and Shimano tomorrow but I want to see if anybody else has experienced this. |
| Some ideas.... | Monte Mar 31, 2002 6:38 PM | | I don't have direct experience with the Kona, but do with the Shimano's on a Kona Stinky. No squealing, ever. Sept when wet, for a little bit.
Make sure your qr skewer is tight. Use a steel qr skewer instead of ti, if you have a ti one. Bake the pads at 350 - 400 for half hour or so, speeds up the break in.
