Anyone running discs on a SID SL?Mossy

Thinking about running either an Avid mech or XT disc on the front, but remembered hearing some people complain about flex/durability issues. Can anyone advise? Thanks

I have been running XT discs on my 2002 SID SL for about 9 months. I weigh 155-160 and while riding I don't notice any flex (typically ride on technical singletrack). I don't think there will be any durability issues because if there is a disc mount the fork was designed to handle the loads of a disc, it will flex more than a lot of forks but it will not break.

But sold it for a Bomber, then put the bomber on my other bike and now have a Psylo Race. I liked the feel of the Rock Shox dual air system enough to seek it out in a stronger fork

I was running Hayes on the SID and weigh 215. The fork flexed like a noodle both in twisting and bending directions. But this fork is not designed for someone my size so it may work fine if you're a lighter rider. If you're close to my size...look elsewhere.

How do you like the Psylo Race? I have been looking at that or a Duke Race as an alternative to the SL for a while but I really like the PURE damper.

Hey mtbikerTi ,

I considered the Duke as well. I felt it was still kind of geared towards the lighter end of the rider spectrum. I thought that the Psylo might be better for a bigger rider.

The Psylo has only 3 trail rides so far, but is working well. I Like the tunability of the air system. It has a similar "suspension feel" to the SID SL which I like. The damping and rebound adjustability feels much like the SID. No U-Turn travel adjustment, but that's ok with me.

I'm running it at 100mm now but will probably drop it to 80mm to get the front end down some more. I figured it'd be nice to at least have the option of more or less travel. 100mm just feels too tall for me and my SID at 80mm was more than adequate.

I might just have to get a Psylo Race then. Thanks for the info.

Swapped a 2000 SID SL to 2001 Psylo Race and went from XT Vs to Avid mechs. Gained about 1lb but having lots more fun. It's still light, a raceable set up, esp on more technical courses, lots of tuneability and a lockout. Can't comment on the SID with discs but the Psylo Race has me falling in love with the bike over again (SC Superlight). My SID lost air between rides, sometimes rode with a shock pump in my Camelback. Hope the Psylo is better.

But after 2 months the bushings are shot...feels like I have a loose headset. I weigh 175 and ride XC. Just ordered a Duke race for $230 and will have the SL's bushings replaced. I will only use the SL for races.
