SRAM 9.0 and Avid AD3(3 posts)

SRAM 9.0 and Avid AD3pbhulipo

Switched my levers today. The SRAM 9.0 (2000 carbon weaved one) definitely feels lighter, crisper and more powerful than the AD3, but may be because I removed the return spring on the levers?

Looks like the SRAM also has slightly longer pull, making it easier to set up my disc brake (Activas)

Anyway, too bad the newer version SRAM levers look kinda ugly. I hope they bring back nicer colors and sleeker look with the X.0

........removed the return spring on which levers?

Keep in mind that the 9.0 brake levers are SRAM's highest level........and the AD3's are Avid's lowest level. That's sorta like comparing a Deore lever to an XTR. Of course it's better. Now, within the same price range, if you compared the 9.0 to the SD ti lever from Avid, it'd be a closer race, and I think Avid would win. Your old Avid levers didn't have the Speed Dial, nor the slightly stronger return spring.

Removed return springpbhulipo

I removed the return spring on the SRAM, very easy to do. Anyway, I have 2000 SRAM 9.0 levers, these are equivalent to 2002 SRAM 5.0 (or 4.0, don't remember), but with different looks that matches my 2000 9.0SL shifters.

The AD3 is actually quite a decent pair of levers. Very simple, very solid, just doesn't work well with twist shifters that I have.

I am sure, the two are in the same price range (although I cannot find anything lower than 7.0 stuff on the web, which is too bad). AD3 might be a hair cheaper.
