Help setting up hayes mechanicalsStewart Sanford

I need some help setting up my hayes mechanical disc brakes. I installed the brakes last night and seem to have no problems -- set up went very smoothly. However, when I took my bike out for a test ride this morning, those brakes are squealling like stuck pigs! I don't know if this is part of the normal burnishing process for the metallic pads or if there is some critical adjustment I am missing. Please help. Thanks.

Mine squeal too...WaveDude

Take it to a parking lot and do about 20-30 panic stops from 20mph. Then let me know how yours do. Mine still squeal and aren't stopping as well as I'd expect (although they have gotten better than when they were new). I certainly don't get 1-finger, nose-wheelie, stopping like some are claiming.
I installed my HMX's last weekMarty

They squeeled a bit at first, but after a ride i applied some brake cleaner to the rotors and now they are quiet as can be. Work great too. I think some of the noise could be attributed to finger grease on the rotor from installation. Just my 2 cents.

Be honest. Do you get better stopping that v-brakes? How about 1 finger braking? Everyone (including Hayes) is telling me these HMX should be as good (or very close to) the power of hydro brakes. Mine just don't cut it. I was expecting over-the-bars braking.
