Hope MINI dragging(10 posts)

Hope MINI draggingSteve McQueen

How can I get my front Hope MINI to stop dragging? If I lift up on the front wheel, and spin it, it drags. The pads and brakes only have about 100 miles on them. Will this go away with brake in as my LBS advises?

Thanks!!

I done a couple of thousand miles on my Minis and they still drag. It hasn't got any better, but it hasn't got any worse either. Get used to it.

They are still good brakes though.

Depending on which side of the caliper your rotor is dragging shim the caliper or the rotor to better center it. Get some super thin (like paper) washers and see if this helps.

They should not drag.....Looks like they were not installed (shimmed) properly. Reshim the calipers correctly.

Sounds like you need to align the caliper with the disc. Could take the shims mentioned or even removing some material from the mounts, which is what I had to do mounting my Hope minis to a Fox Fork. I used a fine sandpaper to remove the paint and maybe a small amount of material from around the mount where the caliper makes contact. They are now aligned perfectly.

If you can find a shop that doesn't give you a bullshit answer like the one you got, take it and watch how they align the caliper. Easy fix usually. Patience is needed.

Also, use consistant pressure each time you replace you wheels when clamping your quick-release.

the minis if installed correctly _absolutely_ will NOT have any drag whatsoever

the calipers need to be reshimmed properly

Yes and no. Properly shimmed then yes they won't drag but why waste your time? Once you get to a certain point, how tight you set your quick releases has more of a affect on drag. Think about it your rotor stays in the same place but your caliper doesn't when you tighten your qr. If you don't tighten your QR EXACTLY to the same place then your brakes will drag. Don't waste your time.

I posted something a few months ago about the effects of QR tightening...
I make certain that when I put my wheels in that I make sure they are fully seated in the dropouts and have developed a very good feel for skewer tightness and check that the rotor is perfectly centered in the caliper. takes a whopping 5 more seconds to get it right..
why would I want to let my brakes drag if with just a bit of effort I don't have to?

I ride with fast guys that are 30-50lbs less than me, I need all the help I can get !!!

its down to poor seal tolerancing most of the time. my old enduro 4 had this problem, even though it was lined up perfectly. Give hope a call, they might give you decent answer.I live in the UK and hope knew how pi55ed off i was with mine dragging that they offered to swap it for a c2, which i gladly did, cos hopes open systems are too unreliable.
