| Question about my Julies | VX Apr 5, 2002 6:15 AM | | I don't know too much about hydro discs, so I hope I didn't do anything wrong. I bought some new-old stock Julies and had them put on a couple days ago. Day before yesterday I took my front wheel off and (without even thinking about what I was doing) pumped the brake lever to the front brake and it locked up on me. I couldn't get the pads apart, so I unscrewed the brake line and forced the pads apart... pumping out fluid. Now, of course, there is no pressure in the line and I need to totally bleed it and refill it.
I'm just wondering if I could have done any damager to the caliper? Was there a better way to force the pads back out? |
| yes........... | heff® Apr 5, 2002 7:51 AM | | ........just don't undo the line. You don't need to.
In the event that you pull the lever as you did, insert a blade screwdriver between the pads, and pry them out, alternating sides (front and back of the caliper). There's no need to undo the line.
What I would do, if I were you, and it was a good possibility your lever will get squeezed with the wheel out, is make a spacer to put between the pads. It can be wood, metal, plastic, silly putty, doesn't matter. Just something to keep the pads from moving when you hit the lever.
On my Julies, I used a neatly wrapped, flat wad of duct tape. Same one I keep in my CamelBak for emergency repairs.

| Thanks Heff... I'll remember for the next time! (NM) | VX Apr 5, 2002 8:02 AM | | . |
| The yellow............. | Mike T. Apr 6, 2002 7:28 AM | | ....plastic thing that comes with Julies is the Transportation device - jam it in when the wheel's out. It's even got a small hole in it for a tie-string for when you're whiiping down the highway at 80. |
