| ICEAXE | Disc adaptor Q Jul 11, 2002 8:30 AM | | My uncle has a klein mantra with the 22mm hayes mount in the back, does anyone know if there is an adaptor to international standard style monts from the 22mm mounts? |
| Yes..... | Pat T.® Jul 11, 2002 9:18 AM | | I can't remember who makes it, I'll look for it and get back to you. |
| re: adaptor | agent9 Jul 11, 2002 3:16 PM | | FWIW, I just got one for my adept frame from Klein which may fit the Mantra as well. I cant tell from the picture of the 2001 mantra but it wouldnt suprise me if the dropouts are the same. It ran me $15 from my LBS. |
| 2 that I know of.... | YaMon Jul 11, 2002 7:56 PM | | Shimano makes one that you can get from Jenson @ $39.00 or Woodman Components make one also, I have been trying to contact them and they have not replied to my e-mails. I have the same problem with my Dare, however, if I want to mount a bigger disc, I am not sure what adapter to mount to this adapter.... |
| If the mount is on the chainstay there is no adaptor that works | shiggy Jul 12, 2002 9:21 AM | | If the mount is on the seatstay the Woodman should do the job.
The adaptors do not work in the chainstay mount because there is not enough room for the adaptor and the brake caliper inside the rear triangle. |
| If the mount is on the chainstay there is no adaptor that works | BlackBear Jul 14, 2002 9:13 AM | | I have a Gary Fisher with the 22mm chainstay mount. I contacted them a while back regarding an adapter (for Avid Mechanicals) and they responded with, "Have your dealer order you part# 210648, it is a bolt on adapter for the rear dropout that will let you put that brake on." Klein has the same part number, 210648. Not exactly a 22mm mount adapter, but a mount is available.
Has anyone seen one of these adapters in use? What exectly do they bolt to? How do they look and/or work? |
| I think they misinformed you | shiggy Jul 15, 2002 1:53 PM | | That disc mount will not work on a pre-2001 frame (I think.) If the frame has the 22mm mount it should not also have the dropout that excepts the IS disc mount.
On the frames the mount is designed for, they work pretty well. |
| You're probably right | BlackBear Jul 16, 2002 7:38 PM | | My Big Sur is a 2001, but after examining the situation I'm not so sure that the dropout would accept the bolt-on adapter that Fisher recommended. Looking at a picture of the Mt. Tam Disc in the 2001 Gary Fisher catalog, the MT. Tam's dropout (which has a disc adapter attached) is different than the dropout on my Big Sur. Looks like they were kind enough to provide me an almost useless 22mm chainstay disc mount on my Big Sur. Oh well, I'm still happy with the bike. I wanted to buy some Avid Mechanicals, but I ended up settling on a set of Avid Single Digit 7 brakes and Speed Dial 7 levers. The Shimano BR-M420 brakes and Promax levers were pretty poor. Although I'd say that the brakes' main problem were the pads. |
