| Truing disc rotors | woodyak Jul 16, 2002 6:51 PM | | I have standard Avid Mechanical Discs which I believe are stainless steel. What is the poor man's way to true a disc rotor? What is the rich man's way? |

Put the bike in a rack. Position the bike so you can easily see the rotor & caliper of the offending wheel. Spin the wheel and as you do, watch the rotor going through the caliper. You should be able to look down between the pads and rotor and see the rotor wobble back and forth against one pad or the other. Carefully note the exact spot where contact takes place, then use your bare hands to bend the rotor in the opposite direction of its wobble.
Keep at it until the rotor runs perfectly true. It's not hard to do.
Once it's true, clean the rotor with alcohol and you should be good to go.

| dont get too carried away....riding usually trues them itself | DJS Jul 18, 2002 12:29 PM | | I find that if I start a ride with a wobbly rotor (from being crunched under luggage or what have you) it will straighten itself out within 10-15 minutes.
maybe I have magic rotors? |
