| Avid Mech Discs Question. | Donnybrook Jul 17, 2002 2:59 AM | | Are there 4 bolt rotors available for Avid mechs? (pretty short question I know...bloody CODA hubs...) |
| 4 bolt rotors | Wrenchhead Jul 17, 2002 7:00 PM | | I have a 2001 Avid Mech. caliper on my coda front rotor, on a Lefty. I had to shim it up a 1/4 inch but it's working great. The Coda rear hub was a piece of junk, so I bought a 6 bolt hub and built a wheel. A friend is using Avid Mech. on his Lefty, with a Hayes 4 bolt rotor. The only problem is the The rotor is to small at 6 inches, and he had to loose the ball seat shims and mount it with a flat washer. Here is the next problem. the 2002 calipers come with springs on the pads, and will not work with the Coda front rotor because in order to get the pads low enough on the rotor to be on both sides of the holes, that spring will be in the way. Avid also increased the size of rotor from the 2000/2001 160mm to a 165mm rotor on the 2002 model. nobody else uses that size, Although Magura makes a rotor for Coda hubs. (not sure what size, I would assume it's 160mm.) http://www.bikeman.com/catalog/brakediscrotors.htm
If you can find a set of 2001 calipers and use the Magura rotors I believe that would work but for an extra $100 for rotors.
I love my Cannondale but what a pain in the ass. I understand now that cannondale conformed to the 6 bolt hubs. Any way you look at it=$$$$$$$$. |
