Magura Disk Spacer(4 posts)

I was wondering if anyone makes a spacer to mover the disk away from the hub.

I have a 2000 Cannondale Jekyll, 2001 Louise brakes and an XT rear hub. Currently, I have a LOT of .2mm washers between the frame & caliper, so I'd like to move the disk closer to the frame in order to remove some of those washers. Is this possible?

Thanks

When you say you have a lot of .2mm spacers...AndyH

How many are you talking about? There shouldn't be any issue with running a lot of spacers between the frame and caliper unless the caliper bolts aren't long enough due to the thickness of all the spacers.

You could probably have a machine shop make some custom spacers for you that would allow you to move the rotor out away from the hub and closer to the caliper, but it seems like a lot of trouble to me.

.......there was a change in hub standards which moved the rear disc 0.6mm closer to the frame (it's 2.6mm for the front rotor).

So your bike is a 2000 and the brakes is a 2001 so I'll assume that the hub is a pre-2000 New Hub Standard hub. That's what it sounds like.

There is a 2.6mm ring spacer for front hubs but nothing was made for rear hubs. It's ok to shim the rear caliper but what do you call "a LOT" of shims? Normally it should need (if my math is correct) three shims per tab to get what you need. I'll assume by the words "a LOT" that you need much more than this.

Why not substitute regular washers for the thin shims?

By a LOT, i mean 12 on one bolt, 10 on the other. The hub is actually a 2002 XT hub. The rear triangle was built in 2001 as a warranty replacement.

I think I'll just get longer caliper bolts. My main concern was that they weren't long enough...

Thanks!
