In that same vein, is it possible to use any other rotor besides Hayes with Hayes hydros? To save money.

almost any rotor & caliper as long as they will fit together properly when mounted .. ie: a hope c2 caliper set for a 185mm rotor up front will not work properly on a 165mm or 170mm avid, shimano or hayes rotor but it would work fine on any other 185mm rotor as long as the rotor was not too thick compared to the stock rotor. Some rotors are thicker than others & if your system is an open one, it could cause drag on the pads...

i personally use a Hope 185mm DH04 rotor for the front of one bike with an Avid mech caliper & a rear adaptor to get it to fit over the bigger rotor.... it works awesome, & fits together perfectly... it has at least 15% more power & still has xlnt modulation...

I have used (& still do...) shimano rotors with Hope XC4 brakes as well & Hope/ shimano rotors with Hayes calipers... as long as they will fit properly when mounted front or rear it makes litle diff on the rotor manufacturer

edgy...
