2 setups, one works better... why?? (2 posts)
| 2 setups, one works better... why?? | jh_on_the_cape Jul 18, 2002 5:35 AM | | OK. I have 2 bikes now. Bike #1 I have great one finger braking and it feels great. On Bike #2, I need to use 2 fingers and still need to pull hard. Can someone tell me what I should do to Bike #2 to get the performance of #1?? what part would you change to try to get the performance? Bike #1: Old Avid Ultimate Levers pulling Avid AR50's with the stock pads against mavic x517 rims. if it matters, it's a rocky mountain element TO, fork is a z2. Bike #2: The stock bianchi CUSS setup: avid SD 5.0 levers pulling avid sd 5.o brakes with the stock pads against wtb speedmaster rims. Both have regular clean cables and housing. Same trails, same rider, very different feel braking. i have fiddles with the speed dial, but it doesnt make get it right. what would help the most in terms of getting bike #2 to work better? upgrade the levers? pads? i already took scotchbrite to the rims on both bikes. Thanks! |

Frame or fork flex might require the use of a booster
Slight variance of fork- or frame boss braze-on location can affect caliper leverage
Brake lever leverage can have a big effect
Cable routing &/or quality of initial setup may cause more resistance in one system than another
Maybe these things add up to something, maybe not.
