Hose length(3 posts)

Hose lengthMoz

Which hose length should I buy to install shimano XT disc brakes on my iDrive Team (medium size). I figured out 60cm (23.6") should be enough for the front brake (with a 80mm fork). However I'm not so sure about the hose length for the rear brake, 130cm (51.2") seems to be just enough and I'm wondering whether I should buy a 150cm (59") hose instead. Has anyone ever installed XT brakes on this kind of bike? Maybe a bike tech could help.

Thanks

...in their printed catalog, and I found a PDF version of it online (http://www.supergo.com/pdffiles/22_Page_120.pdf)

It basically says:
Rear Hose Length is calculated by measuring stem (center to center) + top-tube length + seatstay length + 140mm

But check out the graphic in the PDF file to see how everything is measured. This should get you pretty close to the correct length but you might also want to purchase some plastic hose from Home Depot and lay it on the frame to determine the correct length for your bike.
