| Disc Brakes - Self adjusting pads really necessary??? | JoshNYC Jul 18, 2002 8:56 AM | | I was thinking of buying a set of 2001 Magura Louise Discs. I do not think the 2001s have self adjusting pads. How much of a pain is this? Do they need to be adjusted everytime I take the wheel off? Am I better off spending the extra money and buying a set of 2002s? Any thoughts or sugestions would be great!
Thanks,

| my experience with Louise | JimC. Jul 18, 2002 12:23 PM | | in dry areas like AZ, in 4 days of hard riding, I had to use a 5mm allen key to turn the pad 1/4 turn, once, rear only.
In Vanoucver in mud and wet, I had to check them and adjust about every third ride. You simply insert allen key, rotate allen key as necessary, and VIOLA, yer done.
As a newbie idjot, I timed the minutes to change my pads to new ones; I was mortified I ((&*%$&%^#$ up something and cost myself time and $$$.
Less than 2 minutes later, I had new pads, and went out to break them in.
Self adjusting are nicer as you simply install and ride, and check them for wear as time goes on, but the Louises are fine, IMHO.
