to other disc rotor manufacturers or are they gonna be their typical
selves and keep rotor production exclusive to themselves.

Wow what a great idea make a splined rotor to cut down on weight and have a more solid interface with the hub. Once again Shimano has broken the mold.

Oh wait...several years ago Hope did the same thing but Shimano drones wouldn't go for it then.

I still have wet dreams about my ti-glide Hope hubs with splined rotor interface.
As it happens Mountain Cycles/ProStop did it in 1992...DeeEight

predating Hope or Shimano's use of a splined rotor interface. The major advantage is much improved hub/fork clearance as there's no bolt
heads to worry about, just a nice flush fitting lockring that's barely 1mm thick. Also rotor changes would be quicker since you need only unthread one lockring, not six bolts.
How about the cost of the replacement rotors?Quattro

It seems the Shimano rotors would be a lot more expensive to
replace than the easier to manufacture 1 piece disc.
