newbie Avid Mech Disc questionskegmonitor

I just got my Avid mech discs installed on my frame. The installation instructions warn against the evil of touching the braking surface of the rotor with bare flesh...how serious is this, and what can be done to remove the 'oils'? I don't think I handled the braking surface during installation, but just wanted to do some 'preventative maintainence' just in case...

thanks!

Kinda like a vinyl record, just use care in handling the rotors, grabbing them by the spokes or the outside edges of the braking track. A clean rotor is a happy rotor, and a simple dishsoap solution will keep them clean. If you touch it, no big deal. If you "handle" it and get finger oil on it, play it safe and wipe it down with a wet, soapy rag. If you touch it with filthy hands and smear a gob of bearing grease across it, ok, then it's a big deal and needs to be cleaned. But basically, treat your rotors with care, don't get any overspray on them if you use aerosol lubricants, and wash them occasionally.
