Avid discs - varying lever engagement point(5 posts)

Avid discs - varying lever engagement pointDave S

I just recently got my avid's installed and broke in. The problem I am having is that the rear engages rather quickly into the lever's pull (maybe 10-20%, which I like. The front brake engages about half way (or more)into the lever's pull. If I adjust the front pad adjusters so they engage at the same point as the rear, I will get very heavy drag.

I am running both speed dial adjusters at max leverage.
I don't think my rotor is bent, because it is a constant drag during the whole revolution.
When I first installed them, I used a different front wheel for the first 10-15 miles, possibly this may have caused the pads to break in differently than what is ideal for my current wheel?
Should I just ride 'em and hope that they develop equal power in time?
any other suggestions?

inside pad as close to the rotor as possible without rubbing (back both pads out, move the inner pad in until it rubs, back the inner pad off 1 click) and adjust the outer pad to the throw you want.
If it then rubs as you move the outer pad closer, your rotor needs truing.

re-adjust your caliper after changing wheels? I would try resetting your CPS bolts with the 2/3, 1/3 measurements in the Avid instructions. Also, I run my SD levers at slightly different leverages to get a similar feel from both the brakes.

did that. 2 or 3 times. Each time I got the same result.

Do you set your leverages differently to compensate for a problem similar to mine?

I have my front brake set about halfway and my rear brake set at about midway between half and max. With this set up I get nearly the same engagement point for both brakes.
