Rear Disc Brake MountsDre

Hi y'all. Was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to mount rear disc brakes on an old ('96) GT Avalanche frame that has no rear disc brake mounts? It's an aluminum 6061 frame and I was interested in getting the Avid Mech Brakes. I'm interested in disc brakes and don't want to have to get a new frame to do it. Would appreciate the help!
remember you'll need disc specific wheels also nmDuckman

I know, still could you adapt a non-disc GT to take rear discs?Dre

I know I have to shell out cash for either a new wheel or get a new hub. Still, is there a way to get rear disc mounts via an adapter for my GT?

Thanx!

Hey Dre,

Yeah you can get rear adaptors that'll convert almost any frame into a rear disc frame. (so long as it has Cantilever brake bosses)

There's a couple of companies out there.

(retail price for this thing is $150!)

and a newer one:

(it's not out yet, but coming soon)

Both do the same job.

I don't know how much the frame is worth, the prices of those adaptors might make you consider getting a new frame. Besides, JensonUSA has some pretty decent frames that are pretty cheap. I've been eyeing that matte black Jenson HT1.5 frame =)

Anyhow hope that helps.
