Cable replacement(4 posts)

Cable replacementmakalu

Hi all,

The original cables that came on my bike are just a bit over a year old now. I am running Avid Mech disks. I want to replace the rear cable, and am unsure as to what I should replace it with. I want some sort of full length housing, cause I hate the stickiness and stiction that has resulted of interuped housing.

Any recommendations???

Gore-tex???

Thanks a bunch

You can get a 25' roll of QBP branded 5mm brake housing for about $12 online. It's quality stuff, made by Jagwire who also (BTW) makes housing for Shimano, Avid, Schwinn (remember that cool braided stuff they had?) and others.

Add to that some teflon coated cable — Delta comes to mind but I know there is better stuff out there (If anyone can tell me who makes a teflon coated version of the stuff in the 1st photo below I'd love to know!!!)

Spray some dry lube through the housing. I'm using Pyroil Silicone Lubricant, but Boeshield T9 and other dry lubes should work well.

In the end, you'll not only have a slick, well protected brake cable, but you won't mind scrapping it in a year like you would a $30 set of Gore cables.
