| IS the Hayes Bleeder kit worth the price? | Cube Nov 20, 2002 2:01 PM | | Should I buy the Hayes bleeder kit or buy one from an autoparts store? |
| i made my kit... | east bay rich Nov 20, 2002 5:34 PM | | ...from a plastic syringe used to measure out fluid and some vinyl tubing. The hard part was finding adapters that would attach to a 3/8" tube to a 1/4" tube. The Hayes kit includes a small bottle of brake fluid. It probably wouldn't last that long.I spent about $20 which included 2 bottles of fluid |

| Hayes Brake bleeding | Cube Nov 22, 2002 12:10 PM | | I would like to know what size tubing (fish tank or other) will fit tight? I would also like to get my hands on a 20ML syringe. I watched the bike wrench at my LBS bleed my brakes. He used a 10ML syringe and had to take it off to add more brake fluid. When he reattached the syringe he ended up injecting more air bubbles. So he had to rebleed the line once again. Three bleeds were needed all together for the rear wheel. A larger syringe would have solved that problem by providing enough capacity to hold a sufficient amount of brake fluid to complete the bleed.
It was cool watching him bleed my brakes because now I know how to do it correctly. Here are some hints I picked up.
A) Eye protection is recommended. You don't want brake fluid splashing on your eye balls
B) A big syringe to inject the brake fluid. Big enough to hold enough brake fluid to bleed all the air out without refilling it.
C) Remove wheel and brake pad to prevent contamination of the pads and calipers.
D) Use an old bent spoke to hang the brake fluid bottle on the handle bar to collect the bleed-out brake fluid.
E) Patience will come in handy.
Good bleeding and good luck to you! |
