Simple Manitou question(4 posts)

Simple Manitou questionVW Geek

Hey guys, I'm looking at a set of Shimano Deore mech discs and they come with the international fork mount, whatever that means. I've got a Manitou Black Elite Air on my bike. Will these brakes fit or do I need an adapter? Is an adapter available? Finally, any issues with these brakes?

Thanks!

No adapter available, you need a special caliper...næstep

Shimano took a strange approach with the Deores: The IS version is similar to the Avid and Hayes in that it needs an adapter to make it an IS mount. But take the adapter away, and the spacing is wrong for Manitou's 74mm post mount. They actually make a second version of the caliper to fit Manitou, without using an adapter.

OK, thanks for the info - just saved me a bit o money. There are a few sets on eBay right now and they seem like a steal of a deal.

Cheers!

You could use one of the 74-IS+20 adaptors which are available. That'd let your caliper bolt up, but you'd need a 20mm larger rotor to make it work.
It might be more hassle than you're after.
