Ok, do XT vbrakes really squeal that much in the front? are they worth getting? I hear they stop very well, regardless.
Another option ive been condidering is Richeys, but ive only heard of them, but ive never seen a pair. They dont seem to show any brakes on their website, only brake pads. do they still make them? and are they any good?
Im condidering these two outfits because appearantly they stick out a little farther from the fork arch, and my current brakes are rubbing the arch.

I have the earlier genetation Model M739 brake and levers (circa 1997)and have never had any noise problems with them. I have read the reviews but as far as I can tell the bad comments are only lined to the newer M750s.

Check out eBay for an older pair. They show up new from time to time.

I think you will be extremely satisfied with XT hydraulic brakes. I bought mine in August '02 for the front and rear wheels and absolutely love them. They're plenty powerful especially on a 28 lb hardtail. I think they may have changed their design a little since then, but it's probably for the better. The XT's should hold up fine, and with the 4-piston caliper design, they are powerful, and a cinch to bleed. Mine have squeeled on occasion- usually when the rotors get soaked after riding through big puddles. The squeeling doesn't usually last long though, and has never botered me. Just don't be a fool like me and strip out the caliper mount threads. I guess that applies to all disc brake calipers though.
