XT disc question(5 posts)

First of all- thanks for all the excellent info regarding disc brakes!I have just installed a set of XT disc brakes. The manual says not to turn the bike upside-down, or else air may get into the system. This makes removing a wheel a biatch. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I have to re-bleed every time I crash?

DD,

You don't have to worry about this. I regularly turn the bike upside down to change wheels, repair tubes or whatever & I have never had any trouble with air getting into the lines on my XTs.

Also, a friend often travels 100 miles with his bike upside down on the roof of car without problems on his XTs.

If the fluid level is low enough in the master cylinder air might be introduced into the system if levers are squeezed when upside down. That said,I've never had a problem with turning bikes upside down.

Store mine upside down all the time...one time I took my bike down and the rear felt mushy, a couple squeezes of the lever and it was gone.
