swapping 185mm with 160mm rotors on Avid brakescasper69

Is it possible to say swap a 185 rear rotor and put it on the front, and put the 160 front on the rear? Sorry, I know this may be a stupid question
Yes, you'll just need new adapters...næstep

You'll need a front 185mm adapter and a rear 160/165 adapter. The adapters you have now won't be used in the swap.

Not a stupid question at all. Better to have the larger rotor (more stopping power) on the front, since so much weight is transferred to the front wheel during hard braking. Because of this weight shift, the front wheel is the wheel where traction is highest, so that's the one that ought to have the larger rotor. After you make the rotor switch, there'll no more skidding the rear wheel all the time. Your brake lever pressure will feel more equal between right and left hands.

As næstep said, all you need are two new adapters. They go for about $10 apiece. Well worth it.

I used to know, but I forget. I'm thinking of trying one out on a post mount Deore Mech Caliper to see if it'll work as a CPS system for cheaper.

I think Speedgoat actually keeps 'em laying around, but anyone with a QBP account can get them, or you could probably even order direct from Avid.

Your Deore idea will work. In fact, that'll work with any 74mm post mount caliper that normally takes a 160mm or 165mm rotor.

On a slightly related note, is it OK to run a 185 (or 205)
with a standard QR on front wheel? What about fork?
I'm thinking about going 185 on a 02 Psylo SL (std QR) or Marz Z1 FR SL. Any experience out there?

I have a 185mm rotor on an '02 Fox Vanilla 125 as well as a 203mm rotor on an '01 Marzocchi X-Fly 100. Both forks are standard QR units. No problems to report.

185 on a set of stout hubs, running on '00 Marz Z3 Bam 80. works great. When in doubt, get either a better set of QRs, liek Salsa, or some bolt-ons, since the only conceivable issues I can think of is from badly designed QRs that don't clamp down as well as earlier generations used to.
