Is this procedure more for heavily painted or poorly produced frames and forks? I have a SC Superlight Ano frame. I am having it done on a painted Marzocchi fork, but not sure it it's necessary for an ano frame.

Thanks.

....is no way of knowing which frames or forks, no matter what their quality or cost, have misaligned IS tabs. The first cut with the Gnann tells all.

Anyway it's better to get the paint off.
The worst frames I've seen are Santa-cruz...CODMAN

In my limited experience Gnann-o-mating, the worst frames I've seen/heard about were Santa cruz!!! i actually saw one that needed over 1mm os frame material removed to properly align the disk tabs!!!!

The greatest perk of the Tool is that you can check alignment before doing anything! if it's O.K., you simply never mind!

Luego!

yep, I was more than 1mm on the back of my Bullit, and a buddy's Bullit, and a Heckler we just did with Codman's Gnannymat. I sent our results off to SC for them to chew on.

That said, local LBS that I frequent just ordered the Gnann and said that ALL frames now are off, if you want to offer quality fit to your client you need a Gnannomat.

River City in SE Portland has one. The mechanics are fairly good too.

using a box knife and just scraping the paint off my Fox fork. It works perfect now. You may get so lucky. Oh, just scrap around the disc tab. Of course!

On two different forks, for some reason the paint was built up on just the tabs.....strange. Worked great after I cleaned them up.
