| Avids | ripcordrider45 Mar 25, 2003 10:43 AM | | i saw a really good deal on JensonUsa.com for some avid mech discs. They were 70 bucks for each brake. is this a good deal or not? Thanks |
| Yes, but | MTJ Mar 25, 2003 10:52 AM | | It is a good deal, most places they're around $90. But read the fine print - they're "On Order" and who knows when you'll actually get them. They are great brakes though, so if you're not in a hurry, go for it. |
| re: Avids | kgg Mar 25, 2003 10:49 PM | | try pricepoint - I believe they're the same price. better yet - go buy the current BIKE magazine and get the Performance 20% off coupon. They will pricematch and then give you the 20% off - that's what I just did.
I think the coupon is in BIKE - maybe MBA? lots of threads on this recently in the best buys forum. |
| Universal Cycles... | OldSchool Mar 26, 2003 8:56 AM | | If you can't find them elsewhere.... Universal Cycles will match any published price. I just picked up a couple brakes at $70 each from them a couple of months ago.

| Careful.. | Erci Mar 27, 2003 5:57 AM | | I bought a set of avid mechs from Uni a while ago... they came in zip-lock bags and rotors were wrapped in newspaper! When I called the to ask WTF that was about, they assured me that Avid didn't give them boxes since they bought in such big bulk! I called Avid and they confirmed that they never ship their brakes without boxes, so the brakes I got were obviously OEM. There's nothing wrong with OEM, but lying to customers is very wrong. |
| Bummer... | OldSchool Mar 27, 2003 10:11 AM | | UC is in Portland -- and so am I. Ergo, I just go to their shop and inspect before I pay. The Avid brakes came in Avid boxes and looked quite "official". I, however, wouldn't be suprised if they shiped OEM stuff from time to time.
