| Help with Buzzing on Avids | Egg Mar 28, 2003 8:42 AM | | I took my first ride with my Avid Mechs, and up front and i'm getting a weird buzzing/vibration at certain rpm's, not constantly, and it's not the rotor coming in contact with the pads. I can't tell if it's the rotor buzzing or what?
Strange, has anyone experienced this? |

| They do that | El Kabong Mar 28, 2003 11:11 AM | | My front rotor "sings" at one particular speed on the road -- it's not a big deal. Check your rotor bolts (you did use loctite, right?) and if they're fine, you could elect to live with it, or try to damp the vibration somehow -- I'd start with some duct tape on the rotor "spokes" and see if that does it.

| thanks... | Egg Mar 28, 2003 11:18 AM | | I figured it was no big deal, just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything wrong. so it is the rotor spokes that are humming eh? and duct tape rings around the rotor spokes might eliminate it?
interesting, don't know if i want to start putting duct tape on my bike, i may opt to live with it. but thanks for the insight! |
| I posted the same thing a month ago or so.... | GirchyGirchy Mar 29, 2003 4:12 PM | | My buzzing occurs somewhere over 15mph. Like you, the first time I heard it on my front Avid, I was confused...I stopped about five times to make sure the rotor wasn't rubbing the pads. I also checked the torque on my rotor mounting screws, they were fine.
So I just figured it was the vibrations from the knobby tires vibrating the disc at its natural resonant frequency, and Mike T. confirmed my assumptions. So, don't worry about it at all, just physics at work :)
