What to do about a broken Hayes Lever(3 posts)

What to do about a broken Hayes Leverdevilbike
Mar 31, 2003 9:52 AM
A buddy of mine (who doesn't have a PC) endoed on his brand new '02 SC Bullit. everything was fine, except for his front hayes lever, Not just the silver lever, but the entire assembly. It broke right off just down from where it mounts on the handlebar. We were both surprised that it broke, since it was not that hard of a fall, and nothing appeared to have impacted the lever (no marks on it anyway)

In any case, I figure there is no warranty on this sort of thing (it's not a "JRA" story), but does anyone know if hayes has a crash replacement policy for this sorta thing?

Or has anyone ever tried to epoxy a lever assembly back together?

any help (for my knucklehead freind) would be appreciated.

I think your friend is down to buying a new housing.
It's better to run your bar clamps a little looser. Not so much that they flop around, but it'll let them spin if they get hit.

Try to see if Hayes will warranty it, they have a one year warranty on their brakes. Crashes may not be covered. See if the shop that sold your friend the brakes can help. If they don't have the housings you can get them here http://www.balleracing.com/Hayes_Lever_Body.htm
