| If you................ | Mike T. Jul 23, 2003 3:17 AM | | .....look in your brakes' manual or on your brakes' site you will probably find the information and it will probably tell you some thing like what Magura says - "At least 30 stops from 30kph". |
| longer than you think... | Titan Jul 23, 2003 6:32 AM | | I just went through the break-in process with Avid Mech brakes, so I can speak to that process. The instructions say, "It may take anywhere from 20 to 40 complete stops to break in Avid pads."
Living on the side of a small mountain gives me only two options at the start of a ride, steeply UP or steeply DOWN. This makes for a great (but dangerous) location for breaking in new brakes.
I rode up and down the hill all evening trying to rapidly achieve the "20 to 40" complete stops when I finished the installation. On the first day, I wore out before the breaks broke in.
In the end, I'd say that it took about three times the instruction estimates for my brakes to break-in. They weren't bad to begin with, but, WOW -- the power really stepped up as they got bedded. |
