Problem with hayes(2 posts)

Problem with hayesMicha³

I've bought a pair of hayes HMX-1 XC with adapters. Adapters didn't fit both my kona frame and psylo, both were a little to big, so that i had to remove some material form the adapters, in order to make the parallel surfaces touch. BTW this is the smollest problem i had instaling thouse brakes. My current problem is that i cant get the front calliper to be parallel with the rotor, adapter-fork and adapter caliper surfaces touch ok. I've managed to set them right once, but after a few brakings they were out of aligment again.

Here's a small checklist.

1. Make sure your skewers are good and tight, disc brakes can make the axle shift, ruining alignment.

2. When you bolt them up, how parallel are the fixed pad and rotor? Hayes don't have mount angle adjustment like avid do so you may have to carefully file the adaptor to get them to sit flat and run drag free.

3. Set the fixed pad so it just clears the rotor, then adjust the moving pad for lever throw. The rotors can be tweaked straight by hand or will straighten in use.
