| Avid Disc - Arrived with missing hardware? | JoelW Jul 28, 2003 6:54 PM | | I just realized that my Avid disc I bought didn't come with anything in the box except a rotor and a caliper. I thought it was weird the instruction mentioned "an included Torx wrench", but I am waiting on wheels so I just set the box in my garage.
With my wheels arriving in the next days, I started looking at the setup and realized I don't have torx bolts to mount the rotor to the rim and I am also missing the two bolts to mount to the frame.
I'm assuming these bolts should have been in my package correct? Who should I call Avid or Performance where I bought them from? Also is there anything else that I should have gotten but didn't?
Can't believe I didn't realize it until just now. |
| re: Avid Disc - Arrived with missing hardware? | skywaybuzz Jul 28, 2003 7:13 PM | | call Avid and I'm sure they'll hook you up 303-762-9353 Dan is super nice. |
| Call Performance first | Sparty Jul 28, 2003 7:14 PM | | They should make it good. Was the package sealed when you opened it? If not, shame on Performance for robbing parts and not replacing them. If it was sealed, shame on Avid for sending an incomplete package out the door.
You'll need a "mount" AKA "adapter" unless you're mounting the caliper to a Manitou post-mount fork. This part may already be bolted to the caliper body itself -- it is integral to the brake. Here's photo of the rear brake on my Sugar. See the black part that the gray caliper is bolted to? That's the part I'm talking about. One of these should accompany every Avid disc brake in the box.

| Thanks for the advice... | JoelW Jul 28, 2003 7:45 PM | | This is a rear brake, and yes it did have the adapter already bolted on to it.
I honestly don't remember 100% for sure if the package was sealed when I got it (about two weeks ago), but I'm pretty sure it was otherwise I would have most likely noticed it. I've been waiting on getting some OddsAndEndos wheels built, so the brake has just been sitting on my work bench.
At this hour there surely isn't customer service, but I've sent emails to both parties and will call first thing in the morning.
Frustrating but hopefully they'll take care of it. |
| Don't worry, they will | Sparty Jul 28, 2003 8:16 PM | | I've received excellent customer service from both companies in the past.
BTW, rotor bolts & torx wrenches, as well as the M5 caliper binding bolts you're missing are easily found at any decent bike shop. Inexpensive, too.

| An Update.... | JoelW Jul 29, 2003 7:20 AM | | Avid customer service rocks...
Like I said I had sent an email to them last night. Since they are on mountain time, I waited until now to call. I called the number and told my problem to the customer service rep and she replied "Are you Joel?". Incredible. She had already read my email and was packaging up bolts to send out and told me they would be sent out today.
I am impressed.
I don't know who was at fault or what actually happened but it looks like it will be solved by Avid for sure. The box doesn't really have a seal so it could have happened either place.
Thanks everyone for the help. |
| Avid Customer Service - A; Performance - C | JoelW Jul 29, 2003 6:04 PM | | I got an email back from Performance today. While they are taking care of the problem, they totally ignored my request for expedited shipping (which I offered to pay for). I guess I can't complain since they are fixing it, just sucks that I not get the brakes on in time for a weekend ride.
Here's what Performance had to say about it...
Dear Mr. White:
I apologize for the inconvenience. I am doing a small parts order for the missing items. Please allow 5 to 7 days for delivery. |
| But I thought you said... | Sparty Jul 29, 2003 7:37 PM | | ...that Avid was sending the parts to you. Won't those fix you up?
--Sparty |
| Yes... | JoelW Jul 29, 2003 8:36 PM | | I sent two emails last night after hours and then got a hold of Avid on the phone this morning. They were shipping them out.
I sent Performance another email later in the day saying Avid had hooked me up, but they obviously didn't get to that email (at least not yet).
So I may get two sets of mounting hardware, depends on how quick Performance goes through their emails. I didn't care who sent it, just needed someone to send it to me quick so I can get things bolted up as soon as possible. Having new bike parts sitting around waiting on a couple of bolts doesn't sit well. |

| Please tell me you looked under the plastic inside the box... | beeristasty Jul 29, 2003 10:19 AM | | if you did, then Avid's customer service will take care of you. I once bought some Arch Rivals from PricePoint and they sent 2 sets of front mounting bolts, I contacted Avid and they shipped out 2 sets(F&R) free of charge. |
| Oh yeah...I tore that box apart (nm). | JoelW Jul 29, 2003 12:18 PM | | |
