Increase lever throw on XT discs(4 posts)

Increase lever throw on XT discsmoishel
Jul 30, 2003 9:49 AM
Can anyone tell me how to make my XT disc brake levers have more "play" in them -- that is, make the pads the rotor when the lever is closer to the bar? My fingers cramp on long downhills because the levers are too far away.

I'm hoping this will also move the pads away from the rotors and reduce minor brake rub though that's of secondary importance.

Thanks in advance!

Um, ignore this. I guess I found out what happens when you refresh the page that's displayed on submitting the message.

...with a flathead screwdriver, tire lever, etc. Once done, squeeze the brakes a few times to get them to move in toward the rotor. This should reset the pad-to-rotor distance.

Also, the XT disc brake levers have a lever-reach adjustment which you can use to move the levers closer to or further from the handlebars.

You can't increase the pad to rotor distance of XTs because they are self adjusting, but you can move the lever closer to the bar with the help of the reach adjustment screw on the lever.

A little rub is normal on disc brakes, it doesn't really affect performance in any way, so I say live with it.
